Joe Biden Bans 30 Nationals from Entering the United States
President of the United States (US), Joe Biden has issued a number of new policies, including tightening the rules of the tourism sector in his country. Biden decided to prohibit some non-US citizens from visiting his country.
Recently he announced that he had suspended entry permits for tourists originating from South Africa due to the spread of a new variant of the corona virus that was found in the country.
Reporting from the Travel and Leisure page, January 25, 2021, the policy will take effect starting Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Apart from South Africa, Joe Biden also reimposed the entry ban for all international tourists who have visited Brazil, Great Britain, Ireland, and 26 countries in Indonesia. Europe that allows travel across open borders.
That way there are 30 countries on the list that are not allowed to enter the United States. Of course there is neither Indonesia nor any other Asian country on the list.
“We are adding South Africa to the limited list because of this alarming variant that has already spread beyond South Africa,” explained Dr. Anne Schuchat, CDC deputy managing director, in an interview on January 24, 2021.
Joe Biden also emphasized that the United States has implemented various measures to protect its citizens to reduce the spread of the corona virus. The new coronavirus variant from South Africa is believed to be 50 percent more contagious than that first discovered in Wuhan, China.
List of 30 Countries
To date, 20 countries have confirmed the emergence of this new variant of the corona virus. South Africa itself is one of the countries that allows tourists from the United States on the condition that they submit a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of departure.
Earlier, on January 18, 2021, President Donald Trump announced that the travel ban for Brazil and several countries in Europe was lifted.
However, the policy was canceled by Joe Biden after he was officially sworn in to replace Trump as US President on January 20, 2021. Biden himself wanted to take an aggressive approach to fighting the spread of the virus after Donald Trump rejected the mandate requested by the US health agency.
Here are 30 citizens from 30 countries who are currently barred from entering the United States:
